A contractor working on behalf of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin removing 28 light poles along the Causeway bridge due to safety concerns. They are being removed to cure an issue related to the bolts. The causeway will be without overhead lighting for an extended period of time.
Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 8, and will take place daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The project is expected to continue through the week, and may extend into next week if needed.
During work hours, one inside lane on northbound Interstate 45 will be closed. No lane closures are planned for southbound traffic.
At this time, crews are removing the existing light poles only. Additional design work is required before any replacement lighting is installed on the Causeway.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area and expect minor delays.
