Public hearing for CDBG-CV program

The CARES Act made supplemental CDBG funding available through the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for grants to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus. HUD has awarded the City of Galveston $512,534 in CDBG-CV funding third round.

The City of Galveston has developed the following projects for consideration of funding and will present this CDBG-CV Program to City Council for approval on January 28th:

1.       Parks & Recreation Dept. Wright-Cuney and Menard Parks Recreation Centers COVID-19 Retrofit Improvements $410,028 – a Public Facility and Improvements Project to provide improvements to the centers to retrofit the systems and facilities for COVID-19 to allow for more usage of the centers for Parks & Recreation Programs. These retrofits would focus on improvements that can be taken to reduce the potential for the airborne transmission and surface spread and allow for social distancing measures.

2.       CDBG-CV Administration $102,506 - fund administration costs at no more than 20% of the grant (regulatory allowance) for the CDBG-CV program to ensure regulatory requirements are met and implementation of the projects.

The City will submit an Amendment to HUD for the implementation of the coronavirus pandemic disaster projects for the CDBG-CV funding of $512,534.

A virtual PUBLIC HEARING to receive citizen comments on the City’s 2020 CDBG-CV Proposed Program will be held during the:
