We understand there may be some confusion about which beaches are open at this time.
Galveston County reopened beaches within the county jurisdiction, including Bolivar Peninsula and other unincorporated areas, on Monday, April 13. However, beaches within the City of Galveston remain closed until Friday, April 30. The beach closure is based on guidance from local health authorities. City leaders are constantly assessing data and recommendations from the health authorities as it relates to this and other orders.
The City of Galveston is developing a plan for a gradual lifting of the Galveston emergency orders, including the restrictions on public beaches. This plan will go before the Galveston City Council on Thursday, April 23, and will be available to the public.
We ask that you please continue to heed all emergency orders, which are available online at galvestontx.gov/coronavirus.
