In addition to today’s Galveston City Council meeting, two important events are happening next Tuesday to update residents about the COVID-19 response.
First, the Galveston tourism community is invited to join officials from the City of Galveston and the Galveston Park Board to receive updates on the COVID-19 pandemic response in Galveston.
This State of the City address will take place on Tuesday, April 7 at 9 a.m. and is available streaming on Facebook @CityofGalveston, on GTV at https://www.galvestontx.gov/gtv, and on Municipal Channel 16.
City Manager Brian Maxwell will provide an update on the local COVID-19 response, an overview of city orders, and discuss what the city is doing to continue to serve residents. Park Board Executive Director Kelly de Schaun will address the pandemic’s impact on the tourism industry. She will report on what the organization is doing now to support local businesses and what future plans are to attract visitors to the island once it is deemed safe to do so.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Jim Yarbrough and City Manager Brian Maxwell will host a “Virtual Town Hall” as part of their ongoing commitment to provide residents with updates about the local COVID-19 response and answer questions.
The Virtual Town Hall will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Facebook @CityofGalveston, on GTV at galvestontx.gov/gtv, and Municipal Channel 16.
The City of Galveston has been under a Declaration of a Local State of Disaster related to the emergence of the COVID-19 since March 16. To protect the health and safety of our residents, the City of Galveston has implemented a series of emergency orders. The text of these orders is available at www.galvestontx.gov/coronavirus.
We look forward to these opportunities to address residents and encourage your participation.
