Proposed Island Transit changes

The City of Galveston and Island Transit are proposing changes to reduce the service hours and bus routes for Island Transit because of changes to federal funding and lost revenue during the pandemic.

As required by the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the City of Galveston will hold a public comment period from March 14th, 2022, to March 18th, 2022. During the public comment period, the public is encouraged to ask questions, suggest changes, and comment on the proposed service changes.

The public may make comments at the Island Transit offices, 3115 Market Street, Galveston Texas 77550, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Once the public comment period closes, Island Transit will review the comments and take the proposal before the Galveston City Council for approval.

Service hours will change to the following times:

Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Bus Service availability. No Bus Service on Saturday and Sunday.

*Note this will also affect ADA Complementary Paratransit Services. Paratransit services will only be available Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Discontinuation of Bus Route #7

Bus Route 1 through Bus Route 6 will remain the same, only different hours of operation.

The proposed changes will not affect Galveston Island Trolley Service, nor will the changes affect the rubber-wheeled trolleys. The trollies will continue to operate on the weekend on their current routes only.
