Emergency Rental Assistance for COVID-19 Affected Households

PLEASE NOTE:  You are NOT eligible if you receive Public Housing or Section 8 Housing Assistance or have previously received ST-TBRA or currently receiving TBRA

Program Purpose

The primary purpose of the Federally funded HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) Short-Term Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program (ST-TBRA) is to provide rental assistance to households that have experienced financial hardship because of reduction or loss of income due to COVID-19.  Under the ST-TBRA program, the City can assist households with 100% of the rent payment for up to 3-months.  This program does allow for the payment of back rent originally due on or after June 1, 2020.  Program ends on September 30, 2021.

Eligible Participants

To receive ST-TBRA funds applicant:

  • MUST be able to document financial impact due to the loss of income or job after March 13, 2020
  • MUST be a legal resident/citizen of the United States
  • MUST be a City of Galveston resident
  • MUST have a current Lease Agreement in place
  • MUST have income at or below HUD-specified income limits
  • MUST meet a $1,000 minimum for rental assistance
  • MUST not have more than $5,000 liquid assets

Applicant Selection Process

Applicants will have until July 30th to complete and submit ST-TBRA Application form with support documentation. Completed Applications will be reviewed on a first-come first-serve basis.

All applications must be submitted to our office no later than 4:00 pm on July 30, 2021. 

Completed applications with support documentation can be emailed to TBRAProgram@GalvestonTX.Gov.  

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
