City of Galveston water restrictions update

Galveston, TX – Nov. 16, 2018 – The Gulf Coast Water Authority has made the repair to the line and was flushing out the line Friday morning. The City of Galveston will continue water restrictions until the 42-inch line has been fully restored and is delivering water again.

As of 8 a.m. Friday, the City of Galveston was receiving a water supply of about 5,800 gallons a minute – or 8,352,000 gallons per day over a 24-hour period.

At 8 a.m. the water tank levels for the 30th Street pump station were at 15.8’. At the Airport Pump Station the water tank levels were 18.8’. The City’s water storage levels show water usage comparable to pre-restrictions usage. The Stage 5 water restrictions are mandatory and residents and businesses should be in compliance.

Under these restrictions, all irrigation uses are strictly prohibited, as well as vehicle washing. Residents should take other steps to curb water use, such as only doing laundry when they have a full load or after altering the water level.

There shall not be any flushing of the City’s fire hydrant system and contractors working on City projects shall not provide any service that will conflict with the City’s water conservation mode.

The City may fine up to $500 for each water conservation violation. An attached document shows the Stage 5 water-use restrictions.

The 42” water line operated by the Gulf Coast Water Authority serves customers in Galveston, Tiki Island, Bayou Vista, Hitchcock and Santa Fe, as well as portions of La Marque, Dickinson and League City.

The Stage 5 water restrictions were implemented Wednesday at 12 a.m. and the line was shut down Wednesday.
